Frequently Asked Questions
Everything you need to know about CallPastNow
The questions people ask
Usually, yes. Thirty seconds of clear speech is enough to make a recreation of her voice. A voicemail, a voice memo, an audio file or a clip from a video will do. If the recording is noisy or very short, the recreation may be rougher, and you'll hear that before you pay for anything.
No. It's a recreation of their voice, made from a recording you already have. It isn't them, and nothing here claims otherwise. We say that plainly because people who find out later feel deceived, and they deserve better.
Yes. People keep talking to the people they've lost: out loud, in letters, by calling a number they never deleted, on a phone connected to nothing. Grief researchers call this continuing bonds, and it's a normal part of grieving, not a failure to grieve.
A wind phone is a real telephone connected to nothing, placed in a quiet outdoor spot so people can say what they didn't get to say. The first one is in Japan; there are hundreds across the US now. CallPastNow is different: you hear a recreation of their voice answer. Both are honest about what they are.

Getting Started
All it takes is a short, clear voice recording — 30 seconds to a minute of just their voice, no background noise. A voicemail, a voice note, an audio file, a clip from a video. From that, our engine captures what made their voice uniquely theirs. Then whenever you're ready, you call them. Simple as that. Want to preserve your own voice for the people you love? You can create a contact for yourself too.
From just 30 seconds of audio, our engine captures what made their voice theirs. The tone. The cadence. The warmth. The little things that hit you the moment you hear them. It's not perfect. But our early users say the same thing: "That sounds like them."
Right now, a voice recording is needed to create a contact. If you have even a short voicemail, an audio file or a clip buried in an old video, that may be enough. We'd encourage you to check — most people have more than they think. And if you truly have nothing? We're working on ways to help. This is important to us, and we're not done building.
Immediately. There's no waiting period — once your voice sample is uploaded, you can call right away. Your first call may take a few extra seconds to connect as we set up your contact, but after that, it's instant.
If you can use the phone app on your device, you can use CallPastNow. The experience is designed to feel just like making a regular call. From signup to your first conversation — five minutes.
Features & Experience
Your contact won't have all of your loved one's memories from the start — but it learns. With every conversation, it remembers what you've shared, recalls moments from previous calls, and builds an understanding of the people and relationships you talk about. The more you talk, the more it feels like them.
We also offer a discovery call — a guided interview where you share details about your loved one, helping shape how they respond and who they are on the call. We're always building new ways to make this feel closer to real.
Once your voice sample is uploaded and your contact is created, the voice is set. We recommend taking a moment to choose the clearest, best quality recording you have before uploading.
Yes. Your calls are recorded and saved to your account. In the app you can read the transcript and summary of a call, and once you've made a purchase you can listen to the recording again. Some moments are worth holding onto more than once.
Yes. Once you've made a purchase, you can download the recording of a call from the app to keep or share with the people who matter most. Some voices deserve to be heard by more than one person.
Currently, each account supports one contact. We're working on expanding this so you can preserve and connect with more than one voice in the future.
Grief & Support
We're not therapists, and this is not therapy. What people tell us is simpler: hearing their loved one's voice again brought a comfort nothing else had. It's one thing that helps some people, alongside the people and professionals who support them, not instead of them.

Trust & Security
This is someone's voice. We don't take that lightly. Your data is protected with HTTPS/TLS encryption, passkey authentication, and state-of-the-art security. We don't share it. We don't sell it. It's yours.
Every voice on our platform is there because someone chose to preserve it. Consent isn't optional — it's required. Our Terms of Service strictly prohibit cloning any voice without proper authorization. We verify consent during the upload process. We're also building additional safeguards to stay ahead as this technology evolves, because trust isn't a feature — it's the foundation.
When you delete your account in the app, we delete your account, the contacts you created, the voices made from them, and the calls made to those contacts — recordings, transcripts and summaries. Our Privacy Policy explains what is deleted and what is kept.
